AI, Ethics, and the Eternal City


Students are invited to join us on this once in a lifetime trip to Rome! Your 3-night stay in the Eternal City in Spring 2027 would include:


  • a visit to the offices of Magisterium AI (a global Catholic AI-powered search engine)
  • a meeting with the Vatican’s own Inter-Dicasterial Commission on Artificial Intelligence (ICAI)
  • a joint lecture with students from the University of Mary (USA) on the implications of Pope Leo XIV’s document on AI, Magnifica Humanitas
  • an opportunity to attend Mass (even if you're not Catholic)
  • an opportunity to explore Rome, and enjoy the best ice cream in the world (allegedly)


This kind of learning goes beyond the classroom. It gives you the chance to hear from people at the cutting edge of digital industries which are changing our world. You’ll make memories, deepen friendships, and experience an incredible city with the support of an experienced team of staff.

  • How many places are there?

    We have 12 spaces on this trip, on a first-come, first-served basis. We will require payment in full (no later than 3 weeks before departure). 


    The deposit must be paid by 1 December to secure your place.

  • Is this trip open to anyone?

    Yes- any LTU student is eligible to attend*. Given the nature of this trip, it will be of particular interest to students studying programmes relating to Computer Science, AI and Philosophy Ethics and Religion. 


    *Subject to having the required visa and passport documents for travel into Italy.   


  • How much is it?

    The full cost of the trip is £675 per person (based on twin room sharing).


    Price includes: 

    • Return flights from Manchester to Rome Ciampino, 
    • Airport transfers in Rome, 
    • Travel insurance 
    • Bed and breakfast accommodation 

    Not included:

    • Lunch and evening meals
    • Spending money
    • Airport transfers in the UK

  • How do I pay?

    Visit the Online Store to make your payment(s). (Link pending).


    This is payable in two ways:

    * in full (includes a non-refundable £200 deposit)

    * in two instalments - a £200 non-refundable deposit, and the remaining balance of £475


    The deposit must be paid by 1 December to secure your place. 


    The full balance will need to be paid no later than 6 weeks before the trip.

  • Where are we flying from and to?

    Flights are not confirmed yet, but we are hoping to travel either at the end of February or early March 2027. 


  • Is my passport OK for travel?

    You must ensure your passport:

    * has a date of issue that is less than 10 years before the date I enter the Italy/the EU (so check the ‘date of issue’ on passport) 


    * has an expiry date at least 3 months after the day I plan to leave the Italy/the EU  (so check the ‘date of expiry’) 


    (For example, if you are entering the EU on 7 December 2026 and returning to the UK on 10 December 2026, your passport must:


    * have been issued less than 10 years before 7 December 2026.

    * be valid for at least three months after 10 December 2026.)


    NB: If your current passport was issued before 1 October 2018, you might have a date of issue that is more than 10 year ago, making it invalid for entry into the Schengen area. 


  • I am an International Student from outside the EU

    There are tight restrictions on non-EU international students travelling through the Schengen area. Please check your requirements here before booking your place or contact h.hayward@leedstrinity.ac.uk if you’re unsure”
