Rome 2026

This once in a lifetime trip is the first of its kind at Leeds Trinity University.


It includes a visit to the offices of Magisterium AI (a global Catholic AI powered search engine), the Vatican Commission for AI, and a joint lecture with students from the University of Mary, North Dakota (USA), on Pope Leo XIV’s latest encyclical on Artificial Intelligence, Magnifica Humanitas.


On this three night trip, there will also be ample free time for you to explore the rich history of Rome, an opportunity to attend the Papal Audience, experience the culture of Italy, & much more!


You will be accompanied by the Coordinating Lay Chaplain, Priest Chaplain, and respective colleagues from Computing and Philosophy, Ethics and Religion.


The Rome trip has been designed to provide you with a unique academic and cultural learning experience, combining the study of artificial intelligence, ethics, and Catholic life.


You will gain a deeper understanding of the ethical and societal questions surrounding digital technologies within a broader philosophical and theological context. The experience complements your academic studies in ways that cannot be replicated through classroom teaching alone.

  • How many places are there?

    We have 10 spaces on this trip, on a first-come, first-served basis. We will require payment in full (no later than 4 weeks prior to the trip) to fully secure your place. 

  • Is this trip open to anyone?

    This trip is primarily for computing students, business students, and philosophy, ethics and religion students. If you do not study any of these, we kindly ask you to register your interest with the chaplaincy, and we will be in touch if a space becomes available. 

  • How much is it?

    The full cost of the trip is £549 per person (based on twin room sharing)


    This is payable in two ways:

    * in full (includes a non-refundable £150 deposit)

    * in two instalments - a £150 non-refundable deposit, and the remaining balance.

  • How do I pay?

  • Where are we flying from and to?

    We'll be flying from Manchester Airport on Monday 7 December, into Ciampino, Rome.


    The return flight is from Ciampino to Manchester on Thursday 10 December.

  • I am unsure about my passport

    You must ensure your passport:

    * has a date of issue that is less than 10 years before the date I enter the Italy/the EU (so check the ‘date of issue’ on passport) 


    * has an expiry date at least 3 months after the day I plan to leave the Italy/the EU  (so check the ‘date of expiry’) 


    (For example, if you are entering the EU on 7 December 2026 and returning to the UK on 10 December 2026, your passport must:


    have been issued less than 10 years before 7 December 2026.

    * be valid for at least three months after 10 December 2026.)


    NB: If your current passport was issued before 1 October 2018, you might have a date of issue that is more than 10 year ago, making it invalid for entry into the Schengen area. 


  • I am an International Student from outside the EU

    Due to visa requirements, we are unable to accept international students from outside Europe at this time.
