Batley Torchlight Procession

Each year in Batley, hundreds of people take part in the Torchlight Procession — a long-running local tradition that brings the community together. It began in 1951, inspired by similar events in Lourdes, France, and has since become known as the “Lourdes of the North.”

If you’re at the Main Campus, meet in the Atrium at 5:30pm to travel together. If you’re in Leeds, meet us at the Leeds Universities Catholic Chaplaincy (LS2 9BN) at 6pm. Please register below to book your seat on the minibus.

After the walk, there’s a casual supper in the parish hall (pie and peas) — just bring a bit of money if you’d like some food.

It’s a chance to experience a unique local tradition, enjoy the atmosphere, and share a relaxed evening with friends.
